The Pendleton/Fall Creek Township Fire Department responded to a crash involving a semi truck and a CSX freight train shortly before 6pm on Friday. Crews were in the process of trying to move the stalled semi that was stuck on the track when it was struck by the train.
Both the train and the truck caught fire upon impact. The driver of the semi was able to escape before the crash and was not injured. Emergency medical crew members checked the train’s conductor on scene but no injuries were reported.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management was also called to the scene for hazardous materials cleanup but no additional information was provided.
