Three thousand engineers and conductors who currently work for Canadian Pacific Railway have gone on strike. Teamsters Canada, the union representing the employees, has been in negotiations with Canadian Pacific Railway for several months as they try to get an increase in benefits and more predictable work schedules for employees. The union representatives have vowed to remain at the table in a last-ditch effort to reach an agreement.
This strike has brought a halt to shipments and is the second strike the company has faced since 2015. Canadian Pacific is the leading shipper of grain in Western Canada and is also a major shipper of fracking sand and crude oil in Canada and North Dakota.
