Transport Canada has released an updated version of the Transport Canada Standard TP 14877, Containers for Transport of Dangerous Goods by Rail, in January 2018. The current 2013 version will remain in effect until the updated 2018 version is referenced in the regulations.
The proposed amendment is expected to be published for a 60-day comment period in the Canada Gazette in the fall of 2018.
Some of the important changes will include improved usability by incorporating external technical requirements, updated dangerous goods list, updated technical requirements for Class 3, Flammable Liquids and new tank car specifications, improved harmonization between tank car requirements in the US and Canada, and updated material of construction requirements for tank cars.
