March 18, 2018: Freight Trains Collide in Kentucky

Two freight trains collided at 11:15 Sunday night in Scott County Kentucky. Although the official cause of the accident is still under investigation, train crews claim the northbound train ran through a switch and hit a stopped train head-on. The four railroad employees that were on board the two trains were taken to the hospital but their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
Crews are working to clean up the diesel fuel and vegetable oil that was spilled during the collision and subsequent fire. Local residents were temporarily evacuated out of an abundance of caution and a portion of I-75 was closed for several hours.
