Authorities believe high winds were responsible for the CSX derailment in Perryville, MD on Friday. Six freight cars derailed on the bridge near Havre de Grace. Four of the derailed cars plunged into the Susquehanna River. There were no injuries reported.
A spokesperson for CSX said “Normal train service has resumed at the site where six cars on a CSX train were derailed due to extreme wind gusts last Friday evening in Cecil County, Maryland. The derailed cars were safely removed from the tracks and crews completed track repairs Sunday morning. Some personnel will continue working on site to address the removal of the remaining two cars from the river. This removal process requires close coordination between multiple agencies and will continue to progress as weather permits. CSX appreciates the swift response and ongoing assistance provided by local public safety officials.”
