PHMSA has revised the policy for applications requesting the addition of an item name to a previously approved firework design. In the past, firework manufacturers were submitting revised EX approvals each time they added, changed or removed product names on the approved firework design. PHMSA has recognized this particular area as one that could be streamlined. In order to expedite the approval process PHMSA is no longer processing applications that are requesting name changes on previously approved devices provided the chemical and physical makeup has remained identical.
